Prospective Families

Welcome!

Troy Cooperative Preschool (TCP) is a non-profit, non-denominational preschool operated by parents since 1970. As a nurturing, play based, community-focused cooperative preschool , we value collaboration and parent involvement to foster a strong, connected community that creates a joyful educational experience for all: children, parents and educators.

Philosophy & Mission

Our philosophy is simple: children, parents, and teachers all learning from one another. Our program is designed to nourish your child’s intellectual, emotional, physical, and social growth. We are committed to building a solid foundation in language arts, math, and science through developmentally appropriate activities that nurture the whole child.

What’s a Cooperative Preschool?

Taking part in a cooperative preschool allows you to be directly involved with your child’s early education – you will work alongside the children and teachers to help your children learn and grow! Social, emotional and intellectual skills are garnered in a hands-on way in a cooperative and creative environment.

Parents assist directly in the classroom on “work days” and with the administration and maintenance of the school – parents have a true part of running a cooperative preschool and are referred to as “members.” When you choose a cooperative preschool you commit to not only assisting with the operation of the school in some way, but also to taking an active role in your child’s learning.

Benefits of Cooperative Preschool

~

Bonding with your child in the classroom and carrying over themes from instruction at home

Making lasting bonds with other children and parents alongside students

Your competitive tuition means that your dollars go directly to teacher salaries, rent, and other basics. Because members volunteer their time and talents, our overhead costs remain low.

Exceptional adult to student ratios!

Flexible potty training requirements.

Co-op preschools are unique, placing high value on the input and involvement of its families.

What Do TCP Parents Contribute/Do?

A summary of membership requirements for families include:

  • Working in the classroom when scheduled (usually 2-4 times per month depending on program/class size): parents help ready the classroom for student arrival, assist the teacher during class time, and help clean up the classroom.

  • A parent job: this can be as a member of the preschool’s board or the laundry parent. Each family has a job they contribute to the preschool. Some are more involved than others but many hands make light work!

  • Yearly meeting attendance: parents are asked to attend three meetings per year – usually around an hour each.

What Our Families are Saying

One of the best things about TCP is the family atmosphere. The teachers make the kids feel at home, which makes them feel safe, special, and valued. I also appreciate the play-based curriculum. Children truly learn thru play.

We have loved TCP since day one. I love that I have been able to go to school with my daughter for my work days. It has been such a pleasure getting to know the teachers, aides, parents and all of the kiddos.

Best experience with both of my kids. We just loved TCP. It was such a wonderful, loving environment for them to begin their education. Loved being able to have a role in the co-op as well. Highly recommend!

TCP is a warm sweet environment where my son thrives. He loves attending and looks forward to it every week. I love being able to be in the classroom to be involved and see how my fun he has and progress. He’s made so many sweet friendships!

We feel so lucky to have found TCP! It is such a warm and supportive environment for our 3 year old. We feel confident sending him each day to learn and grow along such caring teachers.

My experience with Troy co-op Preschool has been wonderful. I have had three children complete the 4’s program and one currently enrolled and loving it. As a parent, I love the option of spending the workday with my child and my child loves when it’s my day to work. The teachers are the best part, their love and patience for their job and the children show every day.  I love having the three days a week for three hours schedule. This learning schedule allows for a smooth transition to the following full-time kindergarten day. I know my kids and I wouldn’t be the same without our experience at Troy co-op Preschool.

We have two kids currently enrolled at Troy Co-op we are extremely happy with the pre-K education they are receiving. In addition to the excellent play based curriculum and teachers, the co-op model has given us the opportunity to take a hands on role in their early education both inside and outside the classroom.
